Journey of an IT professional to become Chartered Accountant?
Hi everyone, I am an IT professional in London and want to become a qualified chartered accountant. Currently discovering more and more information about this. I think I am going to choose ICAEW or ICAS route than the others such as ACCA. Ideally I am trying to get into a graduate programme of any company so that I am being paid while I am learning. Any advice and information that you have may would be gratefully received. I have also created an online diary/blog where I enter information as I receive. This helps me. Also being online and open to public others may benefit from that as well. It can be accessed at: http://uk.360.yahoo.com/moreliens I look forward to hearing from you guys. Many thanks moreliens The reason I am planning to move is perhaps because right after graduation I started working for a small charity. I enjoy working there but career development and training opportunites are next to nothing. This has resulted in me bit out of date in skills. Also, the salary is not great so I will not lose much if I start graduate programme with Accounting as their salaries tend to be 20-25K plus.

The question is why you feel the need to change from being an IT professional to becoming a Chartered Accountant. As an IT professional you should have a good career, with the appropriate benefits and rewards. By changing career you will have to expect your earning to drop in the near term as you study. Good luck
