In the past, what I have found to be most effective - and cheapest - is the note through the letter-box. Draft a decent letter with details of your charges, as far as you can offer such details, produce it as professionally as you can, and hand-deliver it to as many doors as you can. Lots of people work at home, so an ordinary house may conceal a worker who needs your help.

Have you thought about putting an ad in your local Post Office window? Quite often work can come in this way and word of mouth can sometimes be the best method. There is always the local paper but sometimes ads can be quite expensive. I do not know if you have got a website but if you do here is a list of places to submit it to. I did this for mine to try and increase traffic. www.dmoz.org www.great-british-pages.co.uk www.searchsight.com www.jayde.com www.dreamsubmit.net www.freeindex.co.uk www.smilelocal.com www.askyourneighbour.co. uk www.mylocalservices.co.u k www.uksmallbusinessdirec tory.co.uk www.hotfroguk.co.uk www.thelocalweb.net www.thomsonlocal.com www.touchlocal.com www.businessclassified.c o.uk www.yell.com www.smilelocal.com www.ufindus.com www.submitexpress.com/ Some of them will want to try and get money out of you for premier listings so I would suggest you just go for the free option every time. If you haven't got a website it may be worth thinking about creating a nice simple one. There are places on the web that you can build a site for free/very little money. Have a look at www.doyourownsite.co.uk, you can build a site for less than £60. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Post a FREE local services advert on Ebay http://localservices.ebay.co.uk/ Advert in the local paper Cobble together some A4 posters to stick up in local shops / post offices + mail to local businesses. Register on various job websites & upload your CV on ones that'll let you... apply for Bookkeeping/accountant/PA vacancies, stating that you're a freelancer in the application. http://www.jduck1979.co.uk/html/jobs.html
